Why Byte Forgepoint exists
The practice began after its founder, relocation adviser Lena Hartmann, repeatedly saw capable newcomers lose weeks because one early assumption was wrong: an address could not be registered, insurance began too late, or a certificate needed a form of translation no one had mentioned before departure. The problem was rarely effort. It was sequence.
From Hamburg, we now help clients build a practical route through those connected decisions. Our work sits between an anonymous internet checklist and regulated legal representation. We explain ordinary processes, help prepare questions and documents, and make clear when a lawyer, tax adviser, insurer or official authority must take over.
The people behind the plan
Lena has worked in international employee support and newcomer orientation since 2016, coordinating arrivals in Hamburg, Berlin and the Rhine-Main region. Associate adviser Daniel Okafor focuses on housing-readiness and family arrival logistics, drawing on years of supporting university researchers and their households.
Their shared discipline is source-checking. Advice notes distinguish official requirements from local practice and from a client’s unresolved assumption. No adviser promises an authority result or an apartment.
How we work
Specific before comprehensive. We first identify your destination, status, household and dates. Advice becomes useful only after those facts are known.
Official sources before folklore. Community experience can reveal practical friction, but a forum comment is not a rule. We link to the relevant public authority whenever possible.
Boundaries stated early. If a matter requires legal, tax, certified translation or regulated insurance advice, we refer rather than improvise.
Respect for the person arriving. Relocation is more than a file of forms. We leave room for school starts, temporary rooms, partners’ work and the fatigue of learning a new city.
Local, not all-knowing
German federal rules meet municipal appointment systems, local housing markets and different service-counter practices. We research the city named in your intake and tell you where uncertainty remains. That honesty is part of the service, not a caveat hidden at the end.
